Managing Director Tanya Pierson is the Director of HVS’ consulting and valuation office in Minneapolis. Tanya previously served as Director of the HVS consulting and valuation office in Boulder, Colorado, where she began her hospitality consulting career in 1994. She has since worked on market studies, feasibility analyses, and appraisals for over 2,000 hotels and resorts in nearly every U.S. state, as well as Canada and the Caribbean.
Tanya also has experience with large hotel portfolios, including Extended StayAmerica, Athletic Clubs, La Quinta, and Equity Inns. These assignments involved lodging supply and demand analyses, facility recommendations, group demand projections, meeting space recommendations, pro forma development, property tax projections, management contract analyses, and brand assessments. Many projects required conducting sensitivity analyses for bond insurers, rating agencies, municipalities, and potential investors.
Prior to joining HVS, Tanya worked at a variety of independent and branded hotels in Colorado and Nevada. Tanya graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management. An associate member of the Appraisal Institute, Tanya has written and been referenced in articles published by The Hotel Valuation Journal, the Denver Business Journal, the Colorado Real Estate Journal, and ehospitality.com. Tanya also served as Contributing Editor for the 1997 Hotel Investments Handbook. Over the past decade, Tanya has been a guest speaker at lodging forums held by the University of Colorado and the University of Denver, as well as the 2010 Lodging Conference in Phoenix. She has also served on advisory boards for the Boulder Convention and Visitors Bureau and East Carolina University.
Outside of work, Tanya enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, Addie and Mollie. Avid fans of the outdoors, the family has a lake cabin in central Minnesota where they enjoy fishing, swimming, and tubing at Mitchell Lake. Aside from work and parenting, Tanya enjoys reading, traveling, and baking.
