San Francisco Lodging - A Peak Into the Market

San Francisco’s growth and economic expansion continue. With near-peak demand levels and a limited pipeline of new supply, hotel performance has been outstanding and has fueled a healthy transaction market.

HVS’ Suzanne R. Mellen Speaks on Hotel Development and Design at BLIS15 

HVS has been associated with BLIS since its inception, and attendance at the annual event has grown steadily. Suzanne R. Mellen, MAI, CRE, FRICS, ISHC, Senior Managing Director of our San Francisco Consulting & Valuation office, will participate in a hotel development and design session that will focus on a variety of related issues, including buying vs. building, current design trends, adaptive reuse of non-hotel buildings, renovation of existing properties, and mixed-use developments. In partnership with Penn State’s Hospitality Management Program, BLIS15 will feature an engaging selection of C-Suite speakers, including J.W. “Bill” Marriott, Jr., Debbie Marriott Harrison, Sheila Johnson, and Steve Joyce, among many others.

South Florida Continues to Boom in Occupancy, ADR and RevPAR 

Stats show that hotels under construction and in final planning stages, in the Downtown Miami and Brickell hotel submarkets are in the upscale and upper midscale categories, which we need.

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group Ready for Second Property in Fiji 

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group has signed a management contract for the Park Inn by Radisson Fiji Suva with Fund Trust Joint Venture, set up by majority shareholder iTaukei Trust Fund, an investment entity established by the Fijian government, and minority shareholder Methodist Church Holdings Trust. The 130-room hotel, slated to open in Q2 2018, will be the first international midscale hotel in Suva, with facilities including a restaurant, lounge, fitness center, meeting rooms and a ballroom. The Pacific Island countries welcomed 380,870 tourists in Q1 2015 - a 7.1% rise as compared to the same period last year, with Fiji claiming the majority of this share having received 143,447 tourists. It is expected that the economic recovery of Fiji’s major source markets, such as Australia and the US, will continue to drive arrivals in the near future.

Kensington Hotel Gets a New Owner and a New Brand  

Crimson Hotels has purchased the Regency Hotel in London's Kensington area from Corncrest for more than £100 million (around £971,000 per room) and subsequently signed a franchise agreement for the 103-room property with Hilton Worldwide for its DoubleTree brand. London-based, independently owned hotel group, Crimson is to invest £10 million converting the hotel to DoubleTree specifications and it is scheduled to reopen in early 2016 as the DoubleTree by Hilton London – Kensington.
