HVS Opens New Offices in Cape Town as Hotel Investment in Africa Looks Set to Rise 

Tim Smith, Director with HVS London, will head the new office in South Africa’s Cape Town following growing interest from investors across the African continent. The announcement coincided with Tim chairing a session on the opportunities for investment in Africa, at the high profile ‘Africa Hotel Investment Forum’ in Addis Ababa, held between 29 September and 1 October 2014. Tim led a panel in a discussion on the extent of demand for mid-market and extended stay hotels, and the facilities they need in order to attract business travelers. Last month, HVS also released its first African Hotel Valuation Index, which revealed hotel rooms in the Seychelles have the highest value per room (US$522,000).

HVS Concludes Access HVS 2014, Shares Insights into Hotel Performance and Supply Trends for Top 10 Markets in the USA 

HVS’ latest hospitality summit series, concluded recently following a run through Atlanta, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Portland, St. Louis, and Houston. The conference series brought together over 560 industry stakeholders, business leaders and key decision-makers from the hotel and tourism industry from across 30 states. The event took place throughout September; HVS managing directors delivered insights on historical and projected performance levels, major drivers of demand, the new supply pipeline, and the latest hotel transactions from their local markets.

Morgans Hotel Group All At Sea In London… 

Morgans Hotel Group’s Mondrian brand made its debut outside of the USA this week with the opening of the Mondrian London at Sea Containers, in London’s riverside South Bank area. The 359-room hotel is the group’s third hotel in the UK capital overall. Formerly office space, the hotel’s building, Sea Containers House, takes its name from one of its previous tenants, Sea Containers Ltd, which occupied the site from 1986 to 2007. The east and west wings of the building still contain office space and the west wing was redeveloped into the Mondrian hotel.
